"Not Tonight Honey, The Web is Calling"

"Not tonight honey, I need to get on the internet."

Sounds like a bizarre reason for not wanting to be intimate doesn't it? But according to a new survey released today, nearly one out of two women would rather give up sex for two weeks than go without the internet, according to a survey released today.

Forty-six per cent of the women polled said they would rather go without sex for two weeks than give up access to the internet for the same period of time, according to the survey, ``Internet Reliance in Today's Economy.''

Ninety-five per cent of those surveyed said it is ``very important, important or somewhat important'' to be able to access the internet.

Sixty-five per cent of those surveyed rated internet access above other discretionary spending items such as cable television subscriptions (39 per cent), dining out (20 per cent), shopping for clothes (18 per cent) or a health club membership (10 per cent).

Sixty-one per cent of the women surveyed said they would rather give up watching television for two weeks than give up access to the internet for one week.

The survey was conducted by the online research firm Harris Interactive and sponsored by Intel Corp, the world's biggest computer chip maker.

I am with you on your tweets on this. Who is taking this survey? I tried to turn it around as my husband also spends a lot of time on the computer. Would he rather give up sex than be on the internet? No way!

The time comparison is off. I do not know about you but my husband and I do not spend three to four hours engaging in intimacy although it is also not just five minutes long. So we end up doing both - sex and lots of internet time also!

Now, if there is truth to the survey, I think what it is getting at is the amount of stimulation and "feel good" that we get connecting on the internet. Unlike many face to face social groups, social networking is much more accepting. I check on my tweeples and see what they are up to, check on my facebook friends and tag them or poke them. Each time my vibe is friendly and curious. If I were to walk into a room where I knew half the people, I may be more concerned about some of those snobbish looks that I have encountered in the past.

I know that I go out of my way to affirm my social networking buddies and they do the same for me. No wonder I love getting on the internet.

However, for the sake of the survey, nothing tops the kind of affirmation I get from my husband, along with all the physical hugs and kisses and touches, (let us not even get to the sex) and the non-static look on his face (as opposed to the static pictures of my friends on facebook or twitter.)

Here is to more great social networking and an even greater sex life!

Iyabo and Diaper Cake Maker,

My husband makes me hotter than a hot flash (in a very good way) so I would be crazy to give that up for the computer. While I admit the computer provides stimulation and connections with others, I'm definitely not into the "group thang." :)

I'm with Barb re: change of life - tee hee - I'd throw the computer away before I'd give up time with hubs.

If you phrased the question with the words "all day" afterward my answer might change! LOL... I said might!

Hmmm, I'll bet you they'd get dramatically different results if they did the same survey on men:-) At least I HOPE they would.
