The media lost its most trusted journalist this year while the entertainment industry lost quite a few notable baby boomers and beyond. Did you know the majority of people on this list died from some form of cancer? The second leading cause was heart disease.

Celebrities Join Women on the Move Event
Actresses Debbie Zipp and Bern Nadette Stanis will headline a Women's Business and Social Networking Seminar/Luncheon on October 18 in Durham, North Carolina.
The event, sponsored by the non-profit organization Boomer Diva Nation, LLC,comes on the heels of their successful Baby Boomer Girlfriend’s Spring Break weekend this past April in Daytona Beach. Author and Radio Host Beverly Mahone is its Founder.
Mahone says Zipp and Stanis will share their stories of pursuing their passions at midlife and offer tips for women who may be in a life transition. Both actresses are members of Boomer Diva Nation.
Zipp is probably best known for her recurring role as “Donna” on the hit TV show, Murder She Wrote. Today she has spread her wings as a talented Producer and teamed up with three other Hollywood actresses to form In The Trenches Productions. They call it “The first entertainment website celebrating the power and beauty of women over 40.”
Stanis played the character “Thelma” on the TV sitcom, Good Times. Since then she has written two books and is currently traveling around the country promoting them.
In addition to the appearances of the celebrity actresses, a gynecologist will be on hand to answer questions regarding menopause and other health-related issues. A mini-concert will be performed by gospel recording artist Jennifer Evans and there will be trivia contests for prizes. The first 50 women who register will receive Diva-licious gift bags.
The event will be held at the Durham Arts Council Building, 120 Morris Street, in downtown Durham. Daytime TV's Hottest African-American Baby Boomer Couple
Thank You All My Children for giving me a reason to come back and get my fix. I was a soap opera junkie for many years. My mother turned me on to the ABC line-up when I was a child so I grew up with Erica, Tad and Dr. Martin. I stayed hooked through high school and college.
I became obsessed when the ABC soap brought in a young actress who looked like me. Her name was Debbi Morgan and she played the daughter of a well-to-do couple in Pine Valley. This was the first time I could recall seeing a black woman who wasn’t playing a prostitute or “mammy.” I could so relate. And then the Soap decided to shake up the pot by bringing in actor Darnell Williams, who played “bad boy” Jesse Hubbard. Despite all the drama between the two of them and their families, they eventually became America’s African-American Super Couple. But then, Jesse died and Angie (who went on to become a doctor) left Pine Valley.
But some genius in that All My Children Writer’s Group had the brilliant idea to bring the couple back to the show. They're now Baby Boomers, just like me. I, for one, am so glad they decided to bring them back because I had stopped watching the Soap because I couldn’t identify with anything that was going on. Yes, Erica may still look as good as she did 40 years ago but she just wasn’t enough to hold my interest.
Now, once again, I am glued to my TV watching for every scene that depicts Angie and Jesse. But Jesse’s supposed to be dead. I watched the episode where he died in Angie’s arms. How they’ll explain this one is beyond me but I don't care.
In a recent interview with Essence Magazine, Debbi said she thought the whole story line was going to be exciting as it unfolds:
D.M.: “He is supposed to be dead and when that turns out to be something else, there is so much drama. I don’t know exactly what has happened in Jesse’s past but whatever it is, I don’t think it’s gonna sit well with her.
Essence.com: You really don’t know the details, Debbi?
D.M.: “I swear to you, I really don’t know. I do know that he’s not dead. He’s not a ghost. I have not been told why his death was faked. There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to know so when we play the scene, it will be spontaneous.”
OK so instead of wasting my life away at the computer as I have been for the past couple of years, I can now sit in front of my TV with some bon-bons and butter pecan ice cream and enjoy watching the drama between America’s favorite African-American Baby Boomer Couple unfold.

Say It Loud---I'm a Baby Boomer Diva and Proud!
Who would’ve ever thought a few months ago that something called the Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame would turn into what it is today?
I had the idea back in March after meeting Singer Natalie Cole at a Women’s Empowerment Convention. I told her she would be one of my DIVAS on my website. Then I started thinking of other women I’ve come in contact with, on and offline….women I have come to admire and respect. Women in my age group who were on the move and doing what they could to make a difference personally and/or professionally.
That was the birth of the Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame. I started out with a half dozen women. It’s now turned into 47 with 12 celebrities. Song-writer Carol Bayer Sager, Actresses Rene Russo and Linda Hamilton, Country Singer Trisha Yearwood and Sharon Osbourne are the latest to be included among the exclusive list of women who make up the Diva Web of Fame. I anticipate 100 women before the end of the year.
Wow! I have truly been blessed!!! Just last year I got fired from my good-paying television news job for writing Whatever! A Baby Boomer’s Journey Into Middle Age. I’m still struggling financially but oh, I am so much happier because I am truly pursuing my PASSION! Menopause isn't going to slow me down from enjoying what's left of my life.
And for those of you who can appreciate this: God told me all I needed was the faith of a mustard seed.
