It was a hard fought campaign. I was up against some stiff competition. The Big Dogs of the Literary Field with all of their money and other promotional resources were fierce. Meanwhile, it was just little old me---unknown, baby boomer author, Beverly Mahone, with no money, no publisher, no connections……trying to take the #1 Amazon ranking by storm. But I was STILL determined to become the #1 Best Selling Author on Amazon on Thursday, November 16, 2006. (OJ Simpson was on the Best Seller’s list with his book, “If I Did It”)
“If?” WHATEVER!
My book, Whatever! A Baby Boomer’s Journey Into Middle Age started at the bottom of the barrel on Monday with a ranking of 1,622,326…Folks, that’s ONE MILLION, SIX HUNDRED TWENTY-TWO THOUSAND, THREE HUNDRED TWENTY-SIX. Slowly, it started to make its move. When I went to bed on Wednesday evening, my book had jumped up into the 30,000 (plus) position. That, to me, was a very positive sign. People were starting to buy the book.
On my BIG DAY—I awakened to a ranking of 15,496. And then I started to see significant jumps. From 4,564 to 3,376, to 1,726 and them I cracked into the Top 1000. Hour after hour I watched the rankings. I continued to climb.
3pm #811
4pm #913
5pm #700
7pm #552
10pm #498
11:59pm #521
Midnight #502
My phone was ringing off the hook. My email was overflowing. The ladies I network with on WIN (Women In Networking on the Ryze Network) had me pumped up! They were just as excited for me as I was and I don’t know how many of them actually have day jobs—but I don’t think any of them got any work done on Thursday!!! They then turned around and threw a Fabulous “virtual party” in my honor at 9pm—complete with prayer, praise and worship for the Creator from whom all blessings flow.
In the end, I didn’t make the #1 Best Selling Author’s List. The highest ranking I received was #498. So I went from 1,622,326 to #498 all in ONE DAY. And I did with some absolutely fabulous help. There are way too many to mention here—but I will send you a personal thank you in the coming days.
Am I disappointed that I didn’t make it to the #1 spot? Well, if this had been “all about me” I would say yes…but since I know this is all a part of a greater plan that God has in store for me, I will tell you I’m elated at the results. I don’t know many people who could’ve done what I did in a day with all of the obstacles I faced. As far as I’m concerned, on November 16, 2006 I was a best selling author because I moved LOTS OF BOOKS (with YOUR help).
And you know what, since I know God still has the FINAL SAY SO…that #1 Ranking may still be in His Plan.
Again, thank you so much for all of your support.
Peace & Blessings,
Beverly Mahone
